Where Have I Been? Plus Cats.

Like I said, Finals were going to EAT ME ALIVE.  I don't know how I managed to crawl out of there breathing, but I did it.  Not only did I do it, I made it out with a 3.9!!!!!  Ok so it was a 3.89 or something like that, but we really don’t need to go into details.  All A’s in my classes except for a B+ in my writing class but I hated that class so it’s cool.

So finals happened, then Christmas happened.  While I got some pretty rad stuff NOTHING compares to this hat that my friend and her mom made me.  JUST LOOK AT IT.

Ok, so you can’t really see it very well, but I took that picture Christmas day and the hat is in another room so that’s the only picture you’re getting.

Every year for new years (Sidenote: WELCOME TO 2012, LAST YEAR ON EARTH HEYYOOO) I celebrate with some close family friends.  Actually, they’re not really family friends. Maybe you guys can help me figure out what to call them.  It’s a family of 6 kids ages 13-26 and it would be totally normal for me to call any one of them to hang out, but our parents have only met, maybe once.  Whatever, Ryan.  Back on track.

But for the past two years we have gone to Maine, but the difference between this year and last year is that I have an iPhone.  With and iPhone comes some of the dumbest apps ever.  No joke, I have an app on my phone called “Places I’ve Pooped” and wherever I poop I log it in on the GPS interface.  Welcome to the 21st century.  GOD DAMN IT RYAN.  STOP GETTING OFF TOPIC

Dumb iPhone apps, OK.  Well there is one that is called Cat Effects and it is a MUST GET.  It’s totally free too (and totally not a sponsor of the site, unless they would like to be ;).  But basically what you do is take a picture of ANYTHING and then chose from their library of cats and places them anywhere on the pictures.  I decided that the only logical way for me to document this trip was to take pictures, add cats, and send them to my friend Lauren. So here is a play by play of what happened on my trip to Maine, with cats.

(OK.  Squarespace is a being a JERK so I had to upload them onto imgur but don't let that deter you from looking that them!  They're so worth it!!)

WHAT DID I JUST WATCH? (Marry The Night - Lady Gaga)

WHAT DID I JUST DO?

Also, can we talk about #newtwitter? AH-MAZE-ING

I am not a very big fan of the gags’ music but I will ALWAYS ALWAYS watch her music video because they are weird as shit.

In short, it’s…. it’s…. OK I cannot describe it in short.

Basically she’s a suicide patient turned black swan who likes to show off her boobs, pour cereal on herself, and paint her hair blue.

Oh and she sings.  I didn’t really pay much attention to the music because again I don’t like her music, I just love to see how batshit she is.

See it for yourself.  I advise watching it in full screen for the best viewing experience.

NSFW?  SFW?  Depends on where you work I guess.  This is the censored version..

FINALS.  SUCK.

FINALS SUCK

FINALS.  SUCK.

FINALS FREAKING SUCK SO HARD

Why am I posting this at midnight, you ask?  Because I always post at hours in the night when I should be sleeping. That’s how I roll.  Because I have absolutely NO TIME ANYMORE.

I guess that’s not true.  Tonight I spent a good hour playing around on AIM with my friend Lauren.  Why did people ever stop using that?  It’s wicked awesome.  I hate Facebook chat, and Skype is really only good for video chatting.  I still think there is a market for AIM but people just aren’t behind it for some reason anymore.

Okay, Ryan.  Back on track, let’s go.

But this week I have to write three research papers.  THREE.  I honestly do not get that who ever thought of finals thought it was a good idea.  Sure, test me to see if I learned anything during your class, but please don’t make all classes do it during the same week!  Or in my case, A SPAN OF TWO DAYS.

It would be one thing if the papers counted as my finals, but that’s only true in one case.  In my sign language class, I have to write the 10-15 page research paper (mine will be 10 pages, have no fear), do an observation report, film myself signing for five minutes, and then do a receptive exam in class.

I thought this was an elective class!

So, not only do I have to do my paper for that class, I have to spend Sunday morning at a Deaf church and then write ANOTHER paper on my observations.

In short this post is just to say that I will most likely be non-existent until around the 20th.  Keep up with me on twitter, because no matter how busy I am, I will always have time for twitter.

Holiday Shopping Guide For Your Geek!

Before I get back to chugging Guayakis and playing Skyrim for the rest of the night, I thought I would talk about something that’s very relevant this time of year

Christmas is just around the bend (first and last time I ever use that expression), and I’m sure some of you out there are better than me an actually buy gifts for your friends are searching for a prefect gift for your geeky friend.

Look no further, my friends.  I am here to present you the official Guide To Buying Your Geeky Friend The Most Awesome Present In The World Ever.

The name is still in the works.

First Up I have Jawbone Up bracelet (please tell me that joke didn’t just go to waste).  I think that every technology lover needs one of these.  Not only is it a super cool gadget, it encourages you to get out of your desk and take a walk or work out.  This thing tracks your steps, can document what you ate, and tells you how long you’ve been working out for.  However, the main feature I think people love is it tracks your sleep.  I don’t know HOW this thing does it, but it can tell your how many hours you were in deep sleep, as opposed to light sleep, and if you woke up at all in the night.  I don’t know, I didn’t make it but it’s SICKK.  Definitely should be at the top of your list this year.

Beats by Dre are desired by many, afforded by few.  It’s hard to convince yourself to spend anywhere between 200-400 smackers on a pair of headphones.  The fannywangs are a good alternative, but are still around $150 and have the dumbest name ever.  I don’t know how that got approved.  But if you’re looking for a pair of super duper cool looking, FUNCTIONAL, headphones you need to look into Urbanears.  They’ll run you about fifty bucks on amazon and they come in EVERY COLOR YOU CAN THINK OF.  Want mustard colored headphones?  Done.  Want shit brown?  Of course.  I’d say play it safe and go with a nice white pair.  If your geek is crafty they can doodle on them or something.  I don’t know. I’m not crafty.

I don’t know if I can put a website on this list or not, but I’m going to because it’s MY LIST.  I’m sure you guys have heard of Think Geek, but if you haven’t, prepare to spend every last cent you have to your name.  There is not one thing on this site I wouldn’t want to own.  It ranges from super cool gadgets, to nerdy pillows, or t-shirts.  While this site does separate a lot of stuff into “Gifts for him” and “Gifts for her” (Which I WHOLE HEARTEDLY HATE.  I hate hate hate anything that separates things between guys and girls unless it’s clothing.  Who says that a stargazer or a ocket ship lego set is only for guys?  Or that no guy has every wanted an eazy bake oven before?  BIGGEST. PET. PEEVE) if you dig around you will be able to find some SICK stuff.  Also check out thisiswhyi’mbroke.com, but be warned, the website name is accurate.

THIS ONE IS ESSENTIAL.  AND CHEEP.  IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY ANYONE ANYTHING IT SHOULD BE THIS.  WHY IS THIS ONE NOT AT THE TOP OF THE LIST?  WHO KNOWS.  I’m a mac user, so I’m going to be talking about the mac version of it, but there is a windows counterpart I’m sure.  You NEED to buy your geek a Mini Displayport to HDMI Adapter.  I’m assuming that the Windows version would be a VGA to HDMI?  But essentially, this turns any HDTV into a computer monitor.  That may seem totally pointless, but if you’re a big fan of HULU or any other media streaming site, it allows you to watch it on your TV instead of on your screen.  Also it makes group Facebook creeping easier.  Not that I do that. Don’t get roped into a super high priced one!  I was at Best Buy and I saw one for $30 but I went home and found one for TWO DOLLARS on amazon (shipping made it about 5 but still, HUGE DEAL).

This one is not only for your friendly neighborhood geek.  I don’t think there is anyone who wouldn’t love this gift.  I know it seems unconventional, but consider donating to a charity in someone’s name.  You could do something simple, like donating $5.00 to an online or local charity per person, or you could donate $100 to a charity and say that it was in the name of everyone on your shopping list!  I suggest Unified Theater as your charity.  If you haven’t already read my post on them, please do.  This group is LIFE CHANGING.

If you’re an iPhone user and you haven’t updated to IOS 5, you probably never will.  I’m sure you geek was waiting hours to update their phone the day it was released.  With Apple’s new “iCloud” feature, you’re allowed to sync all of your music, photos, and documents wirelessly.  The only downside is that you can only sync music bought from the Apple store wirelessly.  Unless you pay $25 a year for iTunes Match, that is. iTunes Match takes all of your files, matches them with the version of the song in the apple store, and swaps it out.  This also guarantees that your music is going to be good quality.  Consider buying someone a year of it.

Last up is not going to be for everyone.  You can buy a domain name super cheep now.  I got mine for $5.00 a year.  I pay a monthly price to be able to host it on Squarepsace, but sites like Blogger and Tumblr will host them for free.  It would be a super cool and meaningful gift if you bought someone a domain and linked it to a site like Blogger.  Not many people realize how easy and affordable this is, so you will look like a high baller if you buy one for them.

If anyone has any more ideas feel free to leave them in the comments!

Christmas Decoratoins For A Poor College Kid

It has officially been two weeks since I decided to get my sleeping patters back on actual schedule.  I was well on my way to being nocturnal, if you didn’t know.  I decided I was going to start going to bed a little earlier each day, and waking up a bit earlier.  After one week of trying this I overcompensated TO THE MAX. I was originally going to bed a 2am but by last Thursday 9pm would come around and I was straight STRUGGLING to keep my eyes open!  I did not think that I was going to be able to change my sleep schedule that drastically!  Thankfully I’ve been able to get back on track and now have an average of going to be at about 12:30.

Now that we got the update out of the way we can talk about the fun stuff.  It is officially DECEMBER!  Holy shit, dudes, I cannot believe how fast that came around.  December = Christmas.  Plain and simple.  Some people believe in the 12 days of Christmas, but let’s be honest; it’s the 31 days of Christmas.

Exams are around the corner so I figured I needed to do something crafty today and distress the hell out.

If you don’t already follow me on pintrest, then you should change around some of your life decisions.  If you do follow me on pintrest then you probably already know what I did to spark up my room/office/den.

I had these old mason jars lying around that I bought thinking that I could be super crafty with them and I finally decided to put them to good use!  At CVS I bought 2 sets colorful Christmas lights and stuffed them in the jars.  You have to make sure that they point in all different directions because if they seem too organized it looks awkward. It sounds almost too simple to be cool, but these things are AWESOME!  I’m currently using them in lieu of a desk lamp and they already make the place look super duper festive.

Next, staying on the theme of Christmas lights, I bought some simple white lights and put them on my IKEA bookshelf.  Another wicked easy thing to do that INSTANTLY makes a small space feel more festive.

If anyone else has any cheep and easy craft ideas for the holidays let me know!  I bought some winter themed mugs to put around my room but I have to clean those out first.
